"HAG" looks to retell the negative imagery we have of older women with western society, drawing inspiration from suffragette banners the set of six quilted banners use the central folklore figure of Cailleach Bhêara a crone goddess in Gaelic folklore. These banners aim to frame older women and aging as a positive thing and the idea of older women passing down their wisdom to the next generation. Fire imagery is used throughout the banners in reference to passing the torch of wisdom and the idea of older women relighting the spark of life in the latter years of life.
Fire also draws references to the witch trials and the idea of older women reclaiming the fire that was once used against them. The word "HAG" is often used to put down and push aside women within society this project seeks to subvert the title and reframe it as a positive.
